Just a few days after women’s nationals, our sailors hit the water once again for open nationals. We are so proud of our sailors for competing against these varsity teams and representing the MCSA all the way in Boston! Day 1 provided a range of wind from 6-20 kn while day 2 was slower and steadier, building from 3 kn in the morning to 10 in the afternoon and across the two days a total of 18 races were run for each fleet. Thank you Harvard and MIT for hosting, and congratulations to Harvard for their victory!

Huge congratulations are in order for our women’s berth who were one of two MCSA teams at this year’s ICSA nationals! Day 1 provided decent, steady conditions while Day 2 was a bit lighter, but across the two days, 17 races were run for each fleet. Our sailors faced some tough competition from the varsity teams present, but raced hard, sailed fast, and had a blast exploring Boston. Thank you to Harvard and MIT for hosting, and congratulations to Yale for their victory!

We were so proud to close out the MCSA spring season at home on Lake Michigan! This weekend we hosted teams from the Universities of Chicago, Michigan, St Thomas, and Miami (Ohio) for our annual spring regatta. Day 1 provided light wind and a bit of fog, but after a couple of postponements, we were able to complete 4 races for A fleet and 2 for B fleet before the wind died. Day 2 brought more wind and some sun for some lovely racing conditions and we finished the regatta with 8 races for each fleet. We had 15 of our own sailors competing across 2 berths who took 1st and 7th overall!

5 of our sailors spent a wonderful weekend in Milwaukee, WI for Marquette University’s Cream City Classic! Due to consistent 20-30 kn conditions, an abandonment was called on day 1, and our sailors spent the sunny spring day exploring the city! Day 2 brought lighter conditions of 12-17 kn with a little rain, and we were able to sail 4 races for each division, but soon puffs built up to 30 kn and the day ended around 1pm, placing 5th overall. Special congratulations to the sailors who successfully braved the heavy conditions for their first college regatta!

This weekend we also sent another 5 sailors to the beautiful state of Oregon for Western Washington University’s Rainier Cup! We had a great time sailing against some West Coast Teams and after two days of sailing and 12 races in each division, we placed 8th overall following berths from the University of Washington, Western Washington University, and UC Santa Cruz

This weekend we sent a record-breaking number of 17 sailors to regattas, 10 of whom traveled to Boston for Boston University’s George E. Morris Trophy! Conditions were rainy with wind ranging from 0-12 kns. Across two days of sailing, our two berths took 6th and 8th place overall!

This weekend, we had 7 more sailors travel to the lovely Baseline Lake for University of Michigan’s Big Ten Team Race! In wind ranging from 0-22 kns throughout the weekend, three round robins were completed, and we placed 5th overall!

This weekend we sent 5 sailors to their first college regatta! Indiana University’s Hoosier Regatta has been a longtime favorite and we were so excited to return this year. Our sailors faced shifty conditions and wind ranging from 15-22 kns, and placed 5th overall!

 

MCSA Women’s Qualifiers

We’re going to Nationals!! Congratulations to the 7 sailors we sent to the MCSA Women’s Qualifiers, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, for placing 2nd overall in both styles, and securing a berth in ICSA Fleet Racing Nationals! Day 1 had exciting racing conditions of 20-25 kns in which teams from Northwestern, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Michigan completed 3 round robins of team racing. On Day 2, teams from Marquette and Purdue joined us for fleet racing, there were 10 races completed for each fleet. Racing was finished on Day 2, but we’ll be back at Women’s Nationals on May 20-23!

 

MCSA Open Qualifiers

We’re going to Nationals!! (again!) Congratulations to the 7 sailors we sent to MCSA Open Quals, hosted by the University of Michigan, for placing 2nd overall in fleet racing and securing a berth in ICSA Fleet Racing Nationals! On Day 1 our sailors faced 15-20 kns and some tough competition as one round robin of team races was completed, and we took 6th place. Day 2 brought 6-10 kns and 8 races were run for each fleet, ending with a dramatic tie between ourselves and the University of Michigan. Day 3 brought lighter wind and with it, multiple postponements, but eventually both fleets were able to run 2 more races, and our sailors pulled ahead, narrowly beating Michigan to claim a berth at Open Nationals which will happen on May 24-27!

 

McIntyre Team Race

The boys are off to Stanford! This weekend we sent a crew of 6 sailors away from the Evanston winter to California to compete in the McIntyre Team Race. Day 1 provided shifty conditions of 7-18 kns, Day 2 started slow but built throughout the day from 5-15 kns, and the regatta was completed after 3 round robins. Against some tough West Coast competition, we took 6th place overall!

 

USF Women’s Team Race

The girls are off to Florida! This weekend we sent 7 of our sailors to the University of Southern Florida for a weekend of great sailing and tough team racing competition. Day 1 provided varying conditions from a shifty 2-10 kns to a consistent 10-15 kns, and 2 full round robins were completed. Day 2 was light and consistent, blowing 4-6 kns for the final round robin. After 18 competitive races, our sailors took 7th overall!

This weekend we sent 5 sailors to Texas A&M in Galveston for their Harris Kempner Memorial Regatta! Day 1 was sailed in shifty conditions of 10-15 kns, Day 2 was lighter and more consistent, and after 10 races for each fleet, our sailors took 4th place overall!
