MCSA Open Fall Championship
Conference Championship Fleet Race
11/2-11/3
After a truly fantastic season, we are beyond proud to close it out by coming in first place overall at MCSA’s Fall Championship! Our 5 sailors had so much fun representing NUST and getting bullets on the race course. Thank you to Hope College for hosting a great weekend. And of course, thank you to our entire NUST community (sailors, alumni, family, friends, and volunteers) for your support throughout this season, we could not have done it without you! We’ll see you in the Winter!
Kingfisher
Fundamental Fleet Race
10/26-10/27
This regatta sets our record as the most sailors sent to a single regatta with 13 sailors, 11 of whom are new to the team! Day 1 was breezy, with 10-18 knots of wind. Day 2 started out similar but died a bit in the afternoon to 5-7 knots. 4 races were run for each division, and our sailors took 3rd, 4th, and 7th places! Congratulations to all our sailors who made their college racing debuts and thank you to the University of Illinois for hosting a great event!
Stoney Burke
Regional Fleet Race
10/19-10/20
This weekend we also sent 5 sailors a bit further away to sunny Northern California where we were proud to be the sole MCSA team in this fleet of coastal teams! Day 1 brought 5-8 knots, shifty at first, but soon settling, and 6 races were sailed in each division. Day 2 provided similar conditions and 3 more races were sailed for each division. Congratulations to our sailors for holding their own and finishing in the top 10 at this competitive regatta! Thank you to UC Berkeley for hosting a great event!
Wisco Women’s
Regional Fleet Race
10/19-10/20
This weekend, we sent 5 sailors (plus our token male chauffeur, Jackson) up to Wisconsin for their fall women’s regatta! Day 1 started out light and built a bit throughout the day from 5-10 knots, and each fleet got to sail 8 races, finishing the round robin early, and giving our sailors a free Sunday to enjoy Madison! Thank you to the University of Wisconsin for hosting a great event!
Rebecca “Becky” Blank Regatta
Fundamental Fleet Race
10/12-10/13
After our recent travels, our sailors were happy to stay local this weekend to host our annual Becky Blank Regatta in Chicago! With two berths, we were able to get many of our new members out on the race course for a great weekend of sailing. Day 1 brought light wind, and 6 races were run for each fleet. Day 2, the wind picked up to 9 knots gusting 16 knots, and 4 more races were run for each fleet. Congratulations to all our sailors, especially those who had their college regatta debuts! Thank you to Columbia Yacht Club, our PROs, and our NUST volunteers for helping us out and making sure everything ran smoothly!
Hewitt Trophy
Regional Fleet Race
10/5-10/6
This weekend we ventured outside of the MCSA all the way to the East Coast to represent our league (and club teams everywhere!) at Bowdoin. Day 1 started out with solid wind, but after 4 races for each fleet, the wind died down significantly. 3 more races were run in total (2 for A fleet and 1 for B) before the day ended. Day 2 brought more light wind, but our sailors persisted, getting in some valuable FJ experience. After 9 races total for each fleet, racing was officially ended. Thank you to the Bowdoin team and everyone who helped run this regatta! We are so proud of our sailors for competing against some of the top varsity teams in the country and holding their own on the water!
Robert Cary-Allen Price Memorial Regatta
Regional Fleet Race
9/28-9/29
This weekend we sent 5 sailors to the lovely Baseline Lake at the University of Michigan. With light wind and dedicated sailors, Day 1 saw 8 close races for each fleet. Day 2 brought 6 more races for each fleet and after some tough competition, our sailors took 1st place overall, continuing our solid start to the season! Congratulations to all! And a special shout out to Yuka for her first college bullet! (and second and third)
Great Lakes Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
Regional Tartan 10 Fleet Race
9/21-9/22
In another fun diversion from our double-handed dominated season—this weekend six sailors boarded Captain Ron Kallen’s 33-foot keelboat M°A°S°H and won first place in the T10 division! Through sun, rain, and wind ranging from 0-9 knots on day 1 and 0-20 knots on day two, a total of six races were sailed. Thank you to Ron for inviting us onboard, to the GLIOR organizers and Columbia Yacht Club for hosting, and congratulations to all our medal-winning sailors!
MCSA Women’s and Open Singlehanded Championships
Conference Championship
9/14-9/15
This weekend we sent three sailors to show off their solo skills in the MCSA Singlehanded Championships! Throughout the weekend, our sailors enjoyed winds of 5-9 knots and sailed a total of 10 races. Congratulations to Margy for taking 2nd place in the Women’s Fleet and Nick and Cole for taking 2nd and 5th in the Open Fleet!
Fall Fury
Regional Fleet Race
9/7-9/8
The school year might not begin for another 3 weeks, but our sailors are ready to hit the water! This weekend we sent 4 sailors up to the University of Wisconsin for the first regatta of the Fall season. With wind ranging from 5-12 knots across the two days and beautiful sunny conditions, 12 races were completed for each division, and our dedicated sailors took a third-place finish! It was a weekend of great sailing and a lovely way to kick off our competitive season.
