Who We Are

We are a student-run club sport here at Northwestern. Founded in 1945, the Northwestern University Sailing Team (NUST) is one of the original members of the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (MCSA), in which we still compete almost every weekend of the competitive season. We also compete at the national level at cross-regional regattas throughout the year. Some of our notable achievements include sending our women's team to the ICSA Fleet Racing Nationals in 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2024 (along with our open team this year), as well as winning the MCSA Conference Championships in Fall 2016! We're lucky to sail on Lake Michigan, which provides us with conditions ranging from cold, heavy NE breeze with 5-ft waves to warm and shifty SW breeze with flat water. We are typically based out of Northwestern University Sailing Center (NUSC), a beautiful beach-front facility that is no more than a 10-minute walk from anywhere on campus. This year, due to construction, our practices and home regattas will be held on North Beach. We have access to a fleet of 18 420’s, 6 FJ’s, and occasionally Lasers. There truly is no better place for college sailing!
